GIQ andJoy Culture Foundation Partnership in Menlo Park

We are excited to partner with the Joy Culture Foundation to bring Growing IQ's acclaimed critical thinking math programs to families in the Menlo Park community. This semester, we are offering three thoughtfully designed classes tailored to different age groups and learning needs.

Growing IQ (GIQ) began more than a decade ago with a father searching for something better. With a career rooted in mathematics, logic, and decision-making, Johnny Dadlani (GIQ Managing Partner) wanted a program that would give his 4-year-old son not just a head start — but a thinking advantage. When he couldn’t find a curriculum that built strategic competence, deep reasoning, and true problem-solving skills, he decided to create one.

Around the same time, he was introduced to an educator whose passion was developing learning experiences that strengthened how children think, reason, and approach challenges. Together, these ideas became the foundation of Growing IQ — a program built on adaptive reasoning, strategic formulation, representation, and conceptual understanding.

As GIQ expanded across multiple states and countries, a chance meeting changed the company’s trajectory even further. Jd’s son met Eric Ding, who quickly became his mentor and guide. Their connection led them into countless conversations about education, logic, and how children learn. Eric left the public sector and joined GIQ — bringing with him the leadership, integrity, and vision that now drives the entire California operation.

The relationship with Joy Culture Foundation (Joy) emerged naturally. Joy’s team began observing classes at GIQ, inspired by how deeply children engaged with mathematical thinking and logical reasoning. At the same time, Joy’s strength in Mandarin language and cultural education, along with their presence in Hong Kong, created a unique opportunity: to blend GIQ’s math-and-logic pedagogy with Joy’s cultural and linguistic richness.

As a Chinese educator himself, Eric immediately recognized how powerful this combination would be. Math and logic remain the core of Growing IQ — but when paired with Joy’s cultural depth and Mandarin instruction, the learning experience becomes even more meaningful, relevant, and global for families.

Together, GIQ + Joy is not just a partnership. It is a shared mission: to empower children with the skills to think, the confidence to reason, and the cultural fluency to thrive in an interconnected world.

Our Story

At Growing IQ, we believe that math is not a subject to be memorized—it’s a language to be explored, questioned, and understood. Our inquiry-based approach encourages students to think critically, ask questions, and discover solutions through hands-on experiences and guided discourse. Unlike programs that emphasize speed and rote repetition, we focus on developing deep conceptual understanding and reasoning from an early age. The younger a child begins this journey, the more naturally they build the logic, flexibility, and metacognitive skills that are essential for long-term academic growth.

What sets Growing IQ apart is our intentional use of a structured learning rubric that empowers teachers to meet each child where they are—while progressively challenging them to reach beyond. Our educators are trained to foster mathematical habits of mind: perseverance, collaboration, and the ability to justify one’s thinking. As a result, our students consistently demonstrate advanced thinking skills and outperform peers from traditional math programs. We’re not simply teaching children how to do math—we’re equipping them to think like mathematicians.

Math Music Motion is a hands-on, play-based program designed for children ages 3.5 to 4.5. It introduces foundational math concepts through music, movement, and guided exploration—helping young learners build confidence and curiosity while developing essential thinking skills. While the experience is fun and engaging, the learning is intentional. Children strengthen their logic, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving abilities—skills that give them a valuable head start before entering kindergarten. Rather than relying on rote memorization, our approach focuses on deep understanding and flexible thinking. The program also supports important habits such as focus, independence, and collaboration, setting children up for long-term success in both academic and social settings. Families often find that Math Music Motion helps their children become more prepared, capable, and eager to take on future learning challenges.

Level 1 is the entry point into the Growing IQ curriculum, typically designed for students in Pre-K through Kindergarten. At this foundational stage, students explore math through play-based and inquiry-driven activities that bring abstract concepts to life. The program places strong emphasis on logic development and spatial reasoning, encouraging students to manipulate, visualize, and problem-solve with purpose. While they begin to explore all six learning domains, Level 1 students are especially focused on justifying decisions, recognizing patterns, and building early strategies for thinking mathematically. Every activity is designed to encourage children to articulate their reasoning, compare expected and actual outcomes, and reflect on their learning—skills that are essential to developing a strong and flexible mathematical mindset. With a balance of structure and creativity, Level 1 lays the groundwork for lifelong confidence in problem-solving and higher-order thinking.

Growing IQ (Level 1)

Our program is build on six core learning domains:

Icons_Domains in Math-01.png

Number & Operations

Number sense is a major component of a student's general intuition about numbers and serves as the foundation for more advanced number skills.

The Real Number System

Algebra

Arithmetic builds intuitive understandings of operations which enable the ability to make generalizations, building pathways to algebraic understandings.

Equations & Expressions

Measurement

Measurement provides a rich and meaningful content for the use of number skills and spatial concepts. It also serves as a critical foundation for advanced math skills.

Units & Attributes

Geometry

Geometric thinking requires reasoning with the properties and relationships of geometric figures: points, lines, angles, surfaces, solids, and dimensionality.

Spatial Properties

Data Analysis & Probability

Collecting, summarizing, comparing, and presenting data requires advanced analytical tools and understandings.

Numerical Data & Distribution

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is the process of skillfully applying, analyzing, synthesizing, evaluating, and conceptualizing information to reach conclusions.

Logic & Reasoning

This lesson introduces students in Grades 3–5 to data analytics, mathematics, and entrepreneurship through hands-on, project-based learning. Students learn how math tools are used in real-world business situations by collecting, organizing, and analyzing data using charts, graphs, basic statistics, and arithmetic operations. Core math skills—including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals—are applied to practical scenarios such as budgeting, pricing, and tracking sales.

The entrepreneurship portion focuses on foundational business concepts presented in an accessible and engaging way. Students explore how businesses begin by solving problems, identifying customers, and researching preferences through simple surveys and data analysis. Learners examine costs, revenue, profit, and budgeting, make pricing decisions, and understand basic supply and demand. Additional topics include business planning, marketing and communication strategies, teamwork roles, and ethical decision-making, helping students see how data and math support thoughtful business choices.

Throughout the lesson, students develop essential soft skills such as collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. Learning is reinforced through individual and group projects where students design a simple business idea, apply math and data to justify decisions, and present their work. By the end of the lesson, students gain practical math skills, an introduction to entrepreneurial thinking, and confidence in applying data-driven reasoning to real-world problems.
