## Ms. Kylie

### Target 1

###### Lesson Type:

Continuation

Number Operation

:

Computation

Solve equations involving absolute value.

###### 1:

Explain that the sums and differences of equations involving absolute value are found using distance and direction on a number line.

6th

###### Vocabulary:

Absolute Value, Positive, Negative, Variable

Activities:

-Students reviewed how to solve equations involving absolute value. They were given some practice equations to solve together as a class going through each step of isolating the variable and identifying the possible solutions.

-Students were given absolute value equations that were posted around the classroom. They started at number one and solved the problem and then went onto the next problem. After solving each problem they were given a phrase for every correct answer they got to complete a mad lib.

### Target 2

:

###### 2:

Use a protractor and understanding of percentages to construct pie graphs from given data.

5th

###### Vocabulary:

Pie graph, Percentage, Decimal, Angle

Activities:

-Students learned to create a pie graph by using data given in a chart that showed how many people liked each sport. The data was represented using a percentage.

-Students learned pie graphs are a 360 degree circle. They converted the percentages into decimals and multiplied by 360 to find the degree of the angle to accurately create the pie graph.

-Students used a protractor to create the angles in the pie graph.
