Ms. Kylie

Target 1

Lesson Type:

Continuation

Measurment

:

Techniques and Formulas

Calculate the volume of rectangular prims.

Supporting targets:
1:

Recognize volume as a measurement of 3D shapes.

2:

Recognize that volume is measured in cubed units (i.e., cm3), depicting that the measurement has length, width, and height.

3:

Use cubes to determine the formula for calculating the volume of rectangular prisms (length * width * height).

4:

Calculate volume from a geometric net.

5:

Find the volume of composite figures.

Grade:

6th

Vocabulary:

Geometric net, Volume, Length, Width, Height, Composite figure

Activities:

-Students were given a geometric net of a rectangular prism with the measurements.and needed to figure out which measurement was the length, width, and height. Then they used cubes to create the rectangular prism and find the volume.

-Students created a building that had two 2 composite figures to build using cubes. They labled the length, width, and height of each composite figure. Then used the formula for volume (L x W x H) to find the total volume.

Target 2

Lesson Type:
Continuation
Number Operation
Computation
Add and subtract with integers.

:

Supporting targets:
1:

Utilize a number line to solve the addition and subtraction of integers.

2:

Differentiate between the sign of an integer in an equation and the operation being performed.

3:

Subtract numbers with different signs, changing the sign of the number and arithmetic operation to calculate.

4:

Convert an integer subtraction problem into an addition problem.

5:

Grade:

6th

Vocabulary:

Positive, Negative, Integer

Activities:

-Students were given equations involving adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers. Students learned when to change the sign of an integer in an equation and the operation being performed.

-Students were given a scenerio of helping a person named Bob manage his finances. They were given different events of Bob earning and spending money. They could chose any order of events that could happen to Bob to help keep Bob from going in debt.
