Number Operation

:

Number Meaning

Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities.

Supporting targets:
1:

Use one-to-one correspondence when counting to connect one quantity with one number name.

2:

Understand that each successive number in the counting sequence is one larger than the previous number.

3:

Count objects to determine how many there are.

4:

Recognize the quantities zero to three, without having to count.

5:

Grade:

Kindergarden

Vocabulary:

Number, Count

Activities:

  • Students reviewed different quantities by identifying the number of dots and showing the matching amount of fingers.
  • Students picked two quantity cards and identified which was more. Quantities were represented with fingers, tally marks, domino dots, and ten-frames.
  • Students played a subitizing game. They rolled a dice and found the matching number of dots on a gameboard.
  • Students were given numbers 1-10 with pictures to match. They put the numbers in order, and described the pattern shown in the pictures. It helped them understand that each successive number in the counting sequence is one more than the previous number.
