Algebra

:

Sequence

Use arithmetic to define a sequence and calculate the next unit in a series.

Supporting targets:
1:

Discover the arithmetic pattern present in Fibonacci’s Sequence.

2:

Discover that a square is produced in each step of Fibonacci’s Sequence.

3:

4:

5:

Grade:

4th

Vocabulary:

Pascal's Triangle, Fibonacci Sequence, Pattern Rule

Activities:

  • Discussed and breifly reviewed sequences and those found in Pascal's Triangle from the previous week.
  • Studied a series and numbers and determined the pattern rule needed to complete the sequence, specifically that of the Fibonacci Sequence.
  • Made observations of how the sequence, when translated into a spiral, is often found in nature, as well as other manmade objects.
  • Applied the general understanding of the Fibonacci spiral to a dream catcher in which the opposite happens (working from the outside in).
  • Discovered that in a dream catcehr, each outer section is divided to create smaller sections as the sprial moves towards the center.
