  • Used their understanding of adding like fractions to multiplying a fraction by a whole number.
  • Practiced simplifying fractions where appropriate.

Challenge Problem:

Part 1: Convert the improper fractions into a mixed number.

Part 2: Convert the mixed number into an improper fraction.

Part 3: Multiply the fractions. If the answer is an improper fraction, convert it into a mixed number.

Guiding Questions:
  • Review vocabulary terms.
  • What part of a fraction never changes? The denominator!
  • Draw pictures to help your child visualize the fractions.
  • When multiplying fractions by whole numbers (or adding fractions with like terms) you only maniluplate the numerators.
