Data Probability

:

Interpreting Data

Construct and read graphs from given information to solve problems.

Supporting targets:
1:

Understand that graphs are often created with scaled increments.

2:

Understand that the data in a graph can also be put into a data table.

3:

Recognize that line graphs are used to show changes over time (trends).

4:

Construct and read simple line plots depicting measurement data.

5:

Construct and read scaled line graphs.

Grade:

4th

Vocabulary:

Line Plot/Graph, Data, Scale, Label

Activities:

  • Compared and contrasted the similarities and differences between bar graphs and line plots.
  • Created their own data tables of 12 random numbers to represent gains and losses of a stock for each month of the year.
  • As a class, determined the scale at which our line plot should use to ensure that all data could be represented while maximizig the space on the chart.
  • Using the same skills as in coordinates, plotted each studentss "gains/losses" seeing that a line plot allowed them to compare multiple "stockls" over the course of a year.
  • Gave proper lables to the graph and a relevant title.
  • Listened to Mr. Johnny as he analyzed the trends of each "stock" and would be best to invest in.
